Research
- Neural cells and neural networksWe focus on (a) the analysis of normal and dysfunctional neural functioning at the cell and network level in healthy and pathological brains, and (b) the elaboration of bio-inspired models and systems that elucidate the neural basis of human cognition and support the development of devices and systems for enhanced communication. There are two major themes:
- Cognitive functionsWe focus on the mechanisms and cerebral substrates of cognitive functions in an interdisciplinary perspective (humanities, life sciences, cognitive sciences and information processing). There are two major themes:
- Social and cognitive interactionsWe examine the inter-personal interactions that modify cognitive functions and introduce additional variables and which enable novel experimental paradigms. The effect of inter-personal interaction on neurocognitive functioning will be explored for the cognitive functions mentioned previously. This type of research requires a multidisciplinary approach, and the involvement of human and social science disciplines is particularly important.
- Parkinson’s Disease (PD)multidimensional cognitive and neurophysiological biomarkers for early diagnosis, outcome prediction and novel neurorehabilitation methodsA major challenge of neurological diseases in general and of PD in particular, is early diagnosis, the prevention of severe deterioration of cognitive functions and the development of personalized (tailored) neurorehabilitation methods. NeuroCoG aims to identify specific behavioral, cognitive and neurophysiological biomarkers in PD patients, that can provide an early diagnosis and robust clinical and cognitive prediction of disease progression.
